Just Another Day

So, I guess I am the parent that laughs at my kids and yesterday was one of those days… I don't think we have every had such an eventful time at the park.  I thought "How great would it be to take a walk to the park and feel the ducks on the way?"  We packed up our bread and headed out leaving the baby with Dad.  We finally get to the pond and there are about 6 ducks already headed our way (I assume we aren't the 1st people to feed them haha).  Little did we know there were 6 more hiding in the weeds awaiting bread.  By the time the 6 ducks got out of the water the other 6 were coming up.  Let's just say that all hell broke loose when 12 ducks start running at us and we only have 3 pieces of bread. They were all chasing those little tears of bread like they hadn't eaten in weeks.  Then, they start coming after US.  I tell the kids "throw all the bread, throw all the bread!" we need to run now.  My 3 year old drops his ninja swords in the flock of ducks… Well shit, that didn't help our escape.  I tell the kids to get back on the trail, I'm going in…. Of course we are all laughing the whole time and there is a woman sitting in her chair nearby attempting to look like she isn't listening. However, the smile on her face says otherwise.

We make our escape and continue on to the park.  We are the only ones there for a while and enjoy our time alone.  Two boys, about 4 years old, and their older sister come to play also.  Everything is fine, until my 3 year old wants to share his ninja swords with one of his new friends…..  Another little boy approaches walking his puppy on a leash and the new little ninja starts wacking the puppy with the sword and the puppy is growling and biting… WOW is all I can say.  The new ninja's father is sitting in his car not watching.  Since my son is the owner of the sword I feel I must step in.  Only problem is that the child doesn't speak much English.  It's a good thing that NO is the same in both English and Spanish!
At that point, I felt I had enough of the park trip and gave a 15 min time frame to finish playing.  Is it wrong that I laughed when we were attacked by ducks?  Or that I laughed after the kid wacked a puppy with a ninja sword?  I think not, because really it's the irony of the events that are funny not a beaten puppy.

We'll see how today goes… I've already put a scoop of coffee grounds in my baby's bottle instead of formula.  Wish me luck!
